What You Need for Parkour
Unlike most popular urban sports, Parkour requires no outside equipment other than what you have on you. Unlike skateboarding, rollerblading, etc, the equipment does not have any large effect on your performance. Better quality skateboards, rollerblades, and bikes might change your results in those activities, but in Parkour a pair of shoes or no pair of shoes will do.
David Belle has said: “Bare feet are the best shoes”. Many practitioners train without shoes as a preference, most likely because Parkour is similar to Medthode Naturelle, which does not use shoes in practice.
Though many practitioners have their preferences. In most cases practitioners choose athletic shoes with a good grip and impact absorption to help with jumps. Depending on the weather a light T-shirt or sleeveless shirt is used along with light pants. It is mostly comfortable clothing. Some practitioners like long sleeved shirts and long pants because they prevent small scrapes. What is chosen to wear is largely dependent on the practitioner and his and her style and sense of comfort. Though there is no doubt that future Parkour gear will develop including special shoes and perhaps even gloves that will aid in practice.
